WELCOME TO OUR E-NEWSLETTER

The library is closed Sunday, May 27, and Monday, May 28,  for Memorial Day weekend.

SUMMER HOURS

The library will close on Sundays beginning May 27. Beginning Friday, June 1, the library, will close at 5 pm on Fridays. These changes will be in effect through the summer. Sunday hours and the extended hour on Fridays resume after Labor Day, September 3.

NEW ELECTRONIC LENDING SERVICES

If you are frustrated with the complexity of downloading eBooks and audiobooks, we hope we have found the solutions! As of April 30, titles from Overdrive will no longer be available. However we have new vendors for both eBooks and audiobooks starting in May. We may have a short period before electronic downloads are available, but watch the Website News for the latest information.

eBooks

3M Cloud eBooksOur new eBook lender is 3M Cloud Library eBook Lending Service. Addison is one of the first libraries nationwide to offer this service. In fact, it is one of only two in Illinois; Oak Park Public Library is the other one. This new, free service begins with the latest in technology and gives us the opportunity to continue refining the product. You, the users, are encouraged to offer feedback.Discovery Station Kiosk

Now to the specifics! This service begins with fiction and nonfiction titles for adults, teens, and children. More titles will be added in the coming months. Books check out for a two-week period. Just like print copies, there can only be one user per eBook at a time. For multiple users, the library has to purchase multiple copies. Books can be renewed if no one is waiting. Since the titles we add belong to the Addison Public Library alone, those on the waiting lists will only be other Addison Public Library card holders.

To download books when you are in the library, stop by 3M's Discovery Station Kiosk, which will be located on the 2nd floor. You will also be able to download through our Website. If you have problems using the Discovery Station or downloading from home, tell staff. This is the kind of feedback 3M is wants.

You can download eBooks to any of the Apple products—iPad, iPhone, iTouch, etc.—to android devices—Samsung Galaxy, droid phones etc.—to Nook, Sony Readers, and Kindle Fire. Unfortunately, these eBooks cannot be downloaded to Kindles. However, 3M is working with Amazon to change this situation. We will let you know as soon as 3M and Amazon resolve this issue.

Downloadable Audiobooks

Our new vendor for downloadable audiobooks is Recorded Books. You can select from many fiction and nonfiction titles for youth and adult listeners. Recorded Books allows for unlimited simultaneous users. The collection includes core titles from Recorded Books. New titles are added on a regular basis. All downloads are compatible with iPods and most MP3 players.

DELICIOUS BOOK CAKE CONTEST

Book CakeAlthough you cannot enter this contest until June 4, you may want to get an early start on the competition!

  • Bake: Create a decorated cake based on a favorite book. One winning cake will be chosen from each of the following categories: family, children and teens, and adults.
  • Deliver: On Monday, June 4, between 9 am-9 pm, bring your cake to the library and fill out an entry form. A staff member will take a photo of each cake; then, you take the cake home to enjoy.
  • Vote: Photos of all the delicious book cakes will be displayed in the library from June 5 through 30. During these dates, the public can vote for their favorite cake.
  • Prize: The winner in each category receives a food gift certificate.
