WELCOME TO OUR E-NEWSLETTER
We have included a schedule of special programs planned from January 15 through March 15. Details about the programs can be found on our Website.

READING WINTERLANDWinter Reading
Beginning January 16, anyone 18 years of age or older may join Reading Winterland, the adult winter reading program. You choose to read 4 books or 15 hours when you register at the Adult Services Desk.

Everyone who finishes will be entered into a special drawing with lots of great prizes. Earn an entry in an additional drawing by reading 4 more books or 15 more hours. All entries must be received by 5 pm on Saturday, February 28.

ADDISON/VILLA PARK READS
Sharon Draper
This year Villa Park has joined Addison's community reading program. Help us celebrate this year's books: The Pact: Three Young Men Make a Promise and Fulfill a Dream by Sampson Davis, George Jenkins, and Rameck Hunt; We Beat the Street by the Three Doctors with Sharon Draper; and Oh, the Places You'll Go by Dr. Seuss.

Author Sharon Draper will visit Addison on Wednesday, April 14. You will have three opportunities to hear her speak: at Addison Trail High School, 9:35 am; Willowbrook High School, 1:35 pm; and Addison Village Hall in the Rotunda, 7 pm.

The Adult Services and Children's Services desks have a list of the planned programs. You may attend adult programs at both libraries; however, children's programs are restricted to library card holders at each library. A brochure and an Event page on our Website will be available shortly.

INSIDE WRITING AND PUBLISHING
The popular series of programs for writers, "Inside Writing and Publishing—DuPage Branch," is back. The series consists of six programs on different aspects of writing and publishing. Inside Writing and Publishing LogoThere are 11 participating libraries. Brochures about the programs are available in the library. To register for one of the programs, contact the hosting library.

The Addison Public Library is cohosting the program The Ins and Outs and Ups and Downs of Writing for Kids on Saturday, February 20, at 2 pm. Children's author Ilene Cooper will talk about the different aspects of writing for young people, including what's hot and what's not; what publishers today are looking for; and ways to improve a manuscript. This program will be held at the Villa Park Public Library, 305 S. Ardmore Avenue. If you are interested in attending, contact the Check Out Desk, 630-834-1164.

SNAPSHOT OF A DAY IN THE LIFE OF YOUR LIBRARY
Join Illinois Libraries on Wednesday, February 10, 2010 and participate in “Snapshot of a Day in the Life of Your Library.” We will collect statistics, comments, and photographs from the day to provide indisputable proof that libraries consistently provide invaluable services to our community. We will use the collected information from the “Snapshot Day” to promote the library to local elected officials, State Representatives and Senators, and others to show that libraries are busier than ever meeting the needs of our residents.

In addition to the already scheduled programs that day (Begin with Books, Preschool Stories, Make & Take Crafts, and Middle School Book Tour), the Children's Department has added a special program for Valentine's Day.

Making a ValentineValentine Dessert Night
Wednesday, February 10, 7-8 pm
Registration begins January 30
All ages, with an adult
Every February 14th across the nation people exchange flowers and gifts between loved ones.  This year celebrate Valentine’s Day early at the Addison Public Library. We will make valentine’s cards and crafts, play games, and have stories, all about Valentine’s Day!

MULTICULTURAL FEST
Put April 17th on your calendar so you do not miss this year's Multicultural Fest. This event will last from 10 am to 4 pm with entertainment, food, activities, and crafts for all ages. We are still in the planning stages so watch the April/May Spotlight on Addison and the Website for more information about the day's activities. A schedule for the day should be included in the next issue of this eNewsletter.

Income Tax form2010 TAX FORMS
Although tax forms are NOT available at the library, information about getting forms IS available on our Website.

WANTED LEGOS
Lego Block
The library is starting a new LEGO club and needs donations of LEGOs for the children to build with. We will accept Duplo size and smaller. We do not have the room to store the larger building pieces from other companies. Instructions for building sets and boxes are also welcome. Please drop off the LEGOs in the Children’s Department. Thank-you for making our new club a success.

PRINT NEWSLETTERS
In addition to the Spotlight on Addison, there are four other print newsletters you can pick up in the departments that produces them.

  • To learn about children's programs, the Children's Department puts together Hands on Fun @ the Li. Each issue lists the many scheduled programs. The newest issue covers February/March 2010.

  • Readers might be interested in Collection Connection. This newsletter, which appears quarterly, is written by the Adult Services staff. It contains information about interesting authors and has many book suggestions.
  • Two new newsletters from Adult Services staff are in the works: AV News, which has information about movies and CDs, and audiobook news, which is about audiobooks. The first issue of AV News is available in Adult Services. Look for the first issue of audiobook news by the end of this month. There will be links on our Website to these, but they are not yet available.
