BOARD OF TRUSTEE ELECTION

Three Addison Public Library Trustees will be elected in the Consolidated General Election on April 5, 2011. Each of these positions is for a six year term. Petitions for candidates may be circulated beginning September 21, 2010. Packets are available at Village Hall, 1 Friendship Plaza. The filing period is December 13-20, 2010.

Story NookNEW PLAYHOUSE IN THE CHILDREN'S DEPARTMENT
The popular playhouse that first appeared during this year's Summer Reading program has reappeared. Covered with pictures inside and out, it is now the Story Nook.

The Story Nook is designed as a cozy space for children and their parents to curl up and read. It even has colorful pillows and a fireplace!


It is so cute, and the kids just love it.


DAYTIME BOOK DISCUSSION
Are you interested in joining a book discussion group that meets during the day? Adult Services staff is exploring the addition of a daytime group. When you are in the library, stop by the Adult Services Desk and complete a short questionnaire. An exploratory meeting is tentatively planned for Wednesday, November 3, at 1:30 pm. Help decide when this club should meet and what kinds of books will be discussed. Bring a favorite book to share.

Student and tutorBECOME A LITERACY VOLUNTEER
Help someone read, write, speak, or understand English better by volunteering for
Literacy DuPage. There are three tutor training, a series of six workshops, beginning shortly.

After training, tutors meet with their learners for two hours a week. Tutors meet with their students one on-one or in a small group. A $25 fee covers a portion of the cost of the materials received during training.

FRIDA KAHLO EXHIBIT
The Friday Kahlo Exhibit was a success!

Frida Kahlo was a gifted artist whose self-portraits express much about the woman behind the brush. The colorful culture of Mexico is celebrated in her art.


The exhibit is one of 31 offered through the 
Teacher's Discovery Traveling Exhibits. The library hopes to host others in the future.

Hispanic CraftDrop-In Hispanic Heritage Month Crafts (All ages)
Help celebrate Hispanic heritage Month by making a craft. Most crafts can be completed in 10-20 minutes.

Pink PajamasPinkalicious Pajama Party
Do you love pink? Come to the library to hear the story of Pinkalicious, a girl who loved pink so much she turned her skin PINK! We will share other books by the author, Victoria Kann, play games, and make a craft. Come in you pajamas, especially pink ones! We will end the night with fabulous pink cupcakes.

Henna Tattoo Workshop (Ages 12-Adult) Mehendi
Hennamore presents a henna tattoo workshop for ages 12 – adult. Come and learn a little about the history of henna, see a demonstration, then get a henna tattoo. Great mother-daughter or friend activity! Free!

On Sunday at 2 pm, show off your henna tattoos, which only last a week or so, at Kathak: The Tradition of Storytelling.

Kathak: The Tradition of Storytelling
Kathak is one of the most dynamic theater arts in the world. Learn about the origin and evolution of this classical danceKathak dancers from northern India when the
Anila Sinha Foundation's dancers perform.

Enjoy this demonstration which uses instrumental and vocal music along with stylized gestures and facial expressions to enliven the stories. Audience members will be invited to participate.

French singer-songwriter Eric Vincent, visiting the Chicagoland area from Paris, France, provide musical interludes. Eric has performed in many countries. The island of Haïti is one of his favorite places and the inspiration for his signature song, "Haïti Kimbe Fo."

Learn about the various parts of computers: hardware, software, monitor, mouse, keyboard, printer, storage devices (CD ROM, flash drive, etc). Become familiar with some computer terminology and concepts like desktop, icons, windows, documents, folders, copy-paste, save, print preview, etc.
