DLS BECOMES RAILS JULY 1

On July 1, the DuPage Library System (DLS) will merge with four other systems to form the new Reach Across Illinois Library System (RAILS). The question you may be asking is "Will I still be able to get materials from other libraries delivered to Addison?" The answer is "Yes, delivery service will continue as usual."

During the first half of the 2010 calendar year, representatives of the Alliance, DuPage, Metropolitan, North Suburban, and Prairie Area library systems met to explore ways to mitigate the serious fiscal situation for the state-funded systems and to safeguard services to the Illinois library community.

The strategy chosen is the merger of the five organizations to begin operations as a single entity on July 1,  2011.

Delivery VanAll DLS member libraries, including Addison, will become members of RAILS. Libraries currently receiving delivery services will receive the same level of service when the merger takes place. Delivery services and procedures will remain in effect for the beginning of the new fiscal year while delivery and facilities options are being transitioned to the new system.

There will be no delivery service on Monday, July 4, 2011. The Addison Public Library will be closed that day as well.
