MUSEUM ADVENTURE PASSES HAVE BEEN EXTENDED
The Macy’s Museum Adventure Pass Program, that many of you have enjoyed, was to expire on August 31, 2011. We’ve just been informed that the program has been extended through October 31, 2011.
Passes will continue to be accepted at following 12 Museums:
The other five museums might also be added to the extension. We’ll keep you posted.
In the meantime, enjoy this wonderful resource for Addison residents by bringing your valid Addison Public Library card to the Children’s Ask Here Desk to check out a pass. Passes are limited to one pass per household per week and must be checked out in person. No online, email, or phone reservations will be accepted.
Each Museum Adventure Pass expires within one week of the checkout date.
This program is presented by Macy's.
SEPTEMBER IS LIBRARY CARD SIGN-UP MONTH
A library card can be one of the most valuable items in your wallet. In today's hectic society, the library is a one-stop shopping oasis. Library card holders have at their fingertips free books, magazines, audiobooks, DVDs, CDs, video games, puzzles, puppets, programs for all ages, and more. Additionally, the library has computers to use and free Wi-Fi. From the comfort of your home, you can access electronic resources and download audiobooks and eBooks. Librarians are happy to recommend materials suitable for various ages and interests.
The Addison Public Library card is free to residents living in incorporated Addison. Once you have a card, it can be used at most libraries throughout the state. To get a card, please bring in two forms of identification, one with a photo ID, proving Addison residency.
PERKS AND POSSIBILITIES OPENS SEPTEMBER 6
The library's café, Perks and Possibilites, will open for the fall semester on Tuesday, September 6.
Enjoy freshly brewed coffee, tea, and cool drinks. Donuts, muffins, yogurt, and a variety of snack items are also for sale. Perks and Possibilities is open Monday through Thursday from 9 to 11 am.
The café is a joint venture between the library and DuPage High School District 88. The café’s operators are students from the Transitions Program and their advisors. This program helps cognitively disabled students, ages 19-21, learn life skills, obtain job training in a community setting, and transition to life after District 88.
Stop by to enjoy good coffee and great smiles.
PRINT NEWSLETTER COMING
Beginning in November, the library will publish a bimonthly print newsletter that will be delivered to your home. You will be able to read about upcoming programs and events, discover what the Friends of the Addison Public Library are planning, and learn about changes that are happening.
The print newsletter will replace Hands on Fun, which has information about the Children's Department, and the teen and adult program brochure. The eNewsletter will continue to be a monthly publication. However, you may see some changes in it as well.
From information obtained through the recent focus groups, we have learned that we need to do a better job communicating with Addison residents. We believe that this print newsletter is the best vehicle to accomplish that.
CIVIL WAR SERIES BEGINS IN SEPTEMBER
