LAST ISSUE OF PRINT NEWSLETTER
Because of budgeting constraints, the Back-to-School issue (August/September) of Spotlight on Addison will be the last. The Library’s Board of Trustees and staff are discussing the best avenue of getting information to you. Encourage your friends and neighbors to sign up for this eNewsletter. They can sign up on the front page of our Website.
Beginning with the September issue, the eNewsletter will go from a bimonthly publication to a monthly one. Program dates and descriptions will be included in each issue, and you will continue to learn about things that are happening at the library.

SCARE UP A GOOD BOOK!
Summer Reading Is Here!
There is still plenty of time to sign up for this year's Summer Reading Program, Scare Up a Good Book! All of the summer reading programs end July 31. Children from birth through entering grade 5 in the fall sign up in the Children’s Department. Teens entering grades 6 through 12 in register at the Teen Desk. Those 18 years of age and older join at the Adult Services Desk. This is your chance to read for fun and prizes.
Volunteens Hard at Work
Teens earn community service or volunteer hours helping with Summer Reading and other programs during the year.
GOING GREEN
When the new library building was designed and built, many environmentally friendly features from the green roof to the furniture choices were included. However, there is room for improvement—a challenge to which the library is committed.
The process began with formation of a committee of staff members. Kay McKeen of SCARCE went through the building and made a number of recommendations. Staff is now working to implement her suggestions. You will certainly see more recycling bins.
A new Going Green Webpage has been developed. Also, we have a logo just for Going Green.
CHECK OUT A KILL-A-WATT METER
A Kill-a-Watt meter can be used to monitor the efficiency of your current household appliances, as well as televisions and other major consumers of energy in your home. Identifying the energy abusers in your home can help you become a smarter energy consumer.
Plug the Kill-a-Watt meter into a wall outlet, plug an appliance, computer, lamp, or other electrical product into the monitor, and find out how efficient (or wasteful) those devices really are. On the large LCD display you will be able to monitor the kilowatt hour consumption of an item to learn how much it costs to run. You can determine electrical expenses by day, week, or month, cycling through displays including voltage (volt), amperage (amp), wattage (watt), line frequency (Hz), and power factor (VA).
The library has 2 Kill-a-Watt meters, provided by ComEd, which can be checked out at the Circulation Desk for 2 weeks.
Go GREEN at the Library!
ARTIST OF THE MONTH
The beautiful oil paintings of Sharon Peters are on display for the month of July. They are located across from the elevator on the 2nd floor.
Sharon Peters, a traditional artist, has been creating original oil paintings for more than 30 years. Her repertoire of works includes landscapes, seascapes, still life, and portraits from photographs.
Sharon started her art with pencil drawings then moved to pastels and charcoal. She next tried water colors and acrylics. She found her calling in the use of oil because of the complex textures created by the blending of the multitudes of available colors.
Sharon is a member of the Addison Art Guild and the Elmhurst Artist's Guild.
Take a moment the next time you are in the library to enjoy Sharon's paintings.
