50th ANNIVERSARY YEAR IS HERE!
Activities celebrating our 50 years continue. The display in one of the showcases in Adult Services, across from the art wall will feature the 1970s. If you have any items from the 1970s that will work in this locked, flat display case, we would love to include them. Please have your name and phone number on any items so we can return them when we move on to the 80s.
We are still looking for more photos of Addison and the library. If you have any to share, bring them to any of the public service desks. Staff will scan the photos and return them to you.
At the grand celebration in October 2012, the 10 displays will highlight the first 50 years the Addison Public Library has been servings it residents.
On Thursday, March 1, at 2 pm, we celebrate the 1960s with the movie The Sound of Music. Annie Hall is an iconic film from the 1970s; it will be shown on Monday, April 2, at 2 pm. Register for the films at the Adult Services Desk, 630-458-3320.
RFID UPDATE
The new security gates are installed and the self-check machines are updated. The materials handling system is being installed and will be working soon.
When the system is complete most items will be automatically checked in when they are dropped through the return slots inside the library. Once checked in, items will be sorted into bins by type and location. Materials will be back on the shelves much faster. A new portable device will help us track inventory of various collections, locate lost and missing items, and ensure that everything is in proper order on the shelves. Library staff will be redirected to more customer-focused services.
We’re very excited about these changes that will improve our service. Once the system is up and running, you will see how quickly items are checked in and get back on the shelves!
We hope you will bear with us as we transition to this new RFID system.
