SUMMER READING: Reading Is So Delicious!
The library has had many readers for this year's Summer Reading.
- The Children's Department reports that they have given out 850 reading logs and 500 children have read at least 5 hours.
- The Adult Department reports that 342 people have registered. Of those, 192 have finished. They have read 362 books and 5792 hours!
- There are 151 teens registered for summer reading so far. Only about 45 finishers have been logged in the database so far, but a large group still needs to be entered.
In addition 37 VolunTeens worked approximately 300 hours in June and 250 in July. This year for the first time, the VolunTeens have a Readers' Theater group. On Thursday, August 2, you can attend the first and only performance of a play about a mouse and a cookie. It is perfect for all ages ,and you do not need to register!
We thank the VolunTeens for all those hours spent helping out with Summer Reading.
SUMMER READING SUPPORTERS
In addition to the sponsors listed last month, the library has received several additional prize donations. We are happy to acknowledge these additional donors.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
PHOTO CONTEST: ADDISON REMEMBERED
Submit photos by Saturday, September 1, 5 pm
There is still plenty of time to take and submit what may be the winning photo.
The Addison Historical Society and the Friends of the Addison Public Library are sponsoring this photo contest. If you have taken a photo or see something that captures the spirit of Addison, it is perfect for submitting.
There are two divisions: youth (through the age of 18 years) and adult (everyone else). Each division has three prizes: $75 for first place, $50 for second place, and $25 for third place. To enter you must be an Addison resident and submit a printed photo that is at least 5 by 7 inches. Each entry must be marked with the Addison location, names of those pictured, and date the photo was taken.
Pick up an entry form and submit photos at the library or the Addison Historical Museum 135 Army Trail Road. You can also download a form. The last date photos will be accepted is Saturday, September 1, at 5 pm.
Two local photographers will serve as judges. Winners will be announced at the library’s “Addison Remembered” program on Thursday, September 27, at 7 pm. All the photos submitted will be on display at the library program. They then become the property of the Addison Historical Museum.
HOW ARE WE DOING?
Please take Addison Public Library Children’s Services Survey 2012 on our Web site, or pick up a print copy at the Children’s Ask Here Desk.
The survey results will help us know what type of programs your family enjoys and where we should promote our programs. We ask you to complete only one survey (online or print) for your entire family.
