EXTENDED HOURS RETURN IN SEPTEMBER
Following Labor Day, library hours are extended. We will again be open from 9 am until 6 pm on Fridays, beginning September 7. Starting September 9, we will be open on Sundays from 1 until 5 pm. All other hours remain the same.

FOOD & SCHOOL SUPPLIES FOR FINES
In one short week, the library collected more than 400 food items and school supplies. That represents more than $400 in fines that users no longer owe. Everything collected was delivered to the Addison Community Switchboard to be distributed to Addison families.
Thanks to all of you who donated!
3M eREADERS NOW AVAILABLE FOR CHECK OUT
Ever wanted to read an eBook, but you don't have your own eReader?
The Library now has five 3M eReaders for you to check out. They're easy to use and come with some basic instructions. If you need any help using the eReaders or the 3M Cloud Library, just stop by the Adult Services Desk. You can even make an appointment with a librarian for some one-on-one instruction. Simply give them a call at 630-458-3318.
The eReaders come without any titles on them so you can load whichever title you want to read from the 3M Cloud Library. You'll need access to a computer and the Internet to load the titles. If you don't have a computer, there are laptops for patrons to check out at the Adult Services Desk on the 2nd floor. With over 700 titles to choose from, there's something for everyone whether it's a biography on Lady Gaga, a vegan cookbook, Berenstain Bears, or some great True Crime.
You have to be at least 18 years old and a resident of Addison to check out an eREADER. Everyone gets them for two weeks, but if they're all checked out, you can always place a hold on an eReader. Just have your Addison Public Library card handy!
50th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
Our fiftieth anniversary is upon us. The big celebration is Sunday, October 14 from 1-5 pm. Plan to stop by for crafts, face painting, balloon twisting, and a trip to the photo booth. At 1:15 pm, Tom Sharpe, the drummer for Mannheim Steamroller, will wow us with his rhythmic rock stylings. At 4 pm, enjoy a cappella rock with Ac Rock.
To get you in the mood there are smaller anniversary events starting the end of September. Thursday, September 27 at 7 pm, we will be sharing pictures and memories of Addison in the 60s. Sunday, September 30 at 2 pm, music and fashion will take the stage, spotlighting popular styles from the last fifty years.
Children under 10 years of age must be supervised by a parent or approved care giver 16 years of age or older. Unless otherwise specified, programs are for all ages. At programs, children must be accompanied by an adult.
Family Events
Rock Out With Rocks & Fossils
Grades K-5 with an adult.
Come to the library and start your own rock collection with a helpful geologist from the Lizzadro Museum of Lapidary Art. She will teach us about different kinds of rocks and how collecting rocks can be fun. There will be hands on activities as well. Each child will go home with a collection that includes at least three rocks or fossils. Children can also bring a few rocks of their own and the geologist will help you identify them! |
