Addison Public Library (IL) Children’s Library Tour
The Addison Public Library opened its new building July 2008. The dream about a new library became a reality on July 21, 2008, when the new building opened to the public for the first time. Thanks to the Village of Addison, which provide $13,000,000 in funding to build the 54,600 square foot building, the library has a magnificent new home. The money from the Village did not come from property taxes but from a .25% sales tax that has been in place for many years. The new building was designed by the architectural firm of Burnidge Cassell & Associates, Inc. The lead architect was Rick McCarthy. M. A. Mortenson oversaw the construction of the building. Neil Wisker was the project manager. The art work "Grand Openings" was created by Gregory Gove.

Materials in the Children's Services Department are selected for ages birth through grade 5. Items are chosen from professional reviews, whenever they are available. Materials of like format are shelved together. Call numbers on each item indicate the location in the collection, i.e. jDVD, jPUZZLE, jFIC. Nonfiction materials are shelved using the Dewey Decimal Classification system. This system gives materials with similar subject matter the same call number, ie. j636 (pets), j398 (folktales), j973 (U.S. history). Suggestions for additions to the collection are always considered.
Please ask at the "Ask Here" desk for help in locating materials you cannot find.
