Summer Reading Logs available at the "Ask Here" Desk of the Children's Library:

Dates to Collect Prizes:
Saturday, June 20- Saturday, August 1
Ages: From Birth – through entering 5th grade. Children must have an Addison Library Card to register. (Children under 5 may register with a parent’s or legal guardian’s Addison Public Library card.)
Prizes: Prizes will be given for goals of reading completed. Participants will also be eligible for a grand prize drawing.
Sign up for Summer Reading and earn prizes for reading at home. Children may read independently, be read to, or listen to recorded books. Addison Library Card holders, entering fifth grade and younger, may begin immediately by printing the reading log at home, or come into the Library and pick one up. Everyone will need to show their Addison Library Card and their reading log to receive prizes.

Your favorite book characters are coming to the library! Come have breakfast with your favorite book character, and get your picture taken with them too! Characters will be announced closer to the date of their arrival. Registration is required for each session:

From your frineds at Mad Science, comes this exciting science show investigating the forces of gravity, inertia and the basic principles of chemistry with flying water glasses, giant smoke rings from a Vortex Generator, a miraculous Genie in the bottle, and an exploding foam fountain.

Randy‘s fine yodeling skills can be heard in Disney’s Home on the Range. Join us for this fun evening of music, folklore, and rope tricks with Cowboy Randy. Watch and learn - you may even pick up a few tricks of your own!!!
Wizard of Oz

Today is the 60th anniversary of the release of the classic film The Wizard of Oz. Travel with us down the yellow brick road to celebrate the film and the book it was based on. We will read some excerpts from the book then play some fun games. Everyone will go home with a special goody basket to remember the day. Following the program, we will be showing the movie and singing along to our favorite songs (space limited).
LIBRARY FUN FOR SCHOOL-AGE CHILDREN
Students entering grades 1-2.
Children will learn to enjoy reading and improve their reading skills in “Ready Readers.” Each session includes stories, games, and crafts based on the book for that session. The librarian will read the book aloud while the beginning readers follow the text in a copy of the book. They will receive a copy of the book to keep for further practice reading at home. Each session requires registration. Must have an Addison Library Card to register.

Students entering grades 3-5.
Join us as we explore a variety of genres this summer!!! Participants will get a taste of the book as we begin reading the book together and will receive a copy of the book to keep. We will also make a craft and play a game.Each session requires registration. Must have an Addison Library Card to register.

Following stories focusing on art and artists, children will create their own art based on a variety of artists’ styles and an assortment of art techniques. The afternoon also includes art themed games and activities.

Do you like to make up stories and act them out? If your answer is “yes,” come take part in Addison Library’s Improv 2009, “Where the Wild Things Are.”
We will give a performance at the Addison Public Library on August 10.

Come join us at the library for this fun time to challenge your friends to some E rated games (Everyone). There will be games that groups can play together like sports, quizzes, and Mario Party.

All ages with an adult.
Drop in during craft hours to create crafts to prepare for back to school. Most crafts can be completed in 10-20 minutes. Children under 10 must be supervised at all times in the craft room.
Drop-in Chess & Board Games
Chess sets and giant board games are available to play in the Children’s Library during the hours the library is open. Ask for games at the “Ask Here” desk.
