ARTIST OF THE MONTH
The artist of the month for May is Annette Leiber. Annette is an award-winning artist who is the founder and past-president of the Addison Art Guild. The paintings in this display are acrylic mixed media abstracts. Annette embraces contemporary techniques while combining Annette Leiberconcepts, materials, and images from many sources.

In Annette's own words, "Art has many meanings. Each individual understands and appreciates art from an intensely personal point of view. My goal is to present my views of beauty and meaning."

Annette's paintings can be found in places as diverse as The White House in Washington, D.C., and Architects Limited in Las Vegas. On a more local level, her works are found in the Elmhurst Art Museum, Addison Municipal Offices, and the Historical Museum of Addison, to name a few.

If you are interested in displaying your artwork at the Addison Public Library, please contact Sally Schuster, 630-458-3303. She will explain the library's policy for displaying artwork and arrange a month for you.

Burnham 100 LogoBURNHAM 100 CENTENNIAL PARTNER
In honor of the 100th anniversary of Daniel Burnham’s Plan of Chicago, the Burnham Plan Centennial Committee and the Newberry Library have created a photopanel exhibit entitled Make Big Plans: Daniel Burnham’s Vision of an American Metropolis. Curated by the Newberry, the show will be displayed simultaneously in libraries and other venues throughout the Chicago metropolitan region.

From the middle of June you can enjoy this 10-panel display right here, at the Addison Public Library.

This exhibition commemorates the publication of Daniel H. Burnham and Edward H. Bennett’s 1909 Plan of Chicago and emphasizes its relevance to metropolitan development through the 20th century and into the future. Photographic reproductions of compelling images from the plan and other sources will show the history and implications of Burnham’s regional vision.

The exhibition will focus on five central themes:

  • Planners and the Burnham Plan will offer an introduction to the plan, its historical context and creators, and its impact nationwide.
  • Transportation will focus on how the plan envisioned Chicago’s transportation infrastructure and how Burnham’s design crystallized the transportation issues that faced American cities throughout the 20th century.
  • Open Space will explore the role the plan played in expanding metropolitan Chicago’s public parkland and the lakefront, and its national legacy for open space.
  • City and Region will examine Burnham’s insistence that the plan address problems of the city and the region as a single unit and the historical challenges to its regional vision.
  • Into the Future will depict some of today’s bold plans for addressing critical regional issues—including solutions to challenges in areas such as transportation, conservation, energy, water, and sustainable design.

In addition the library has planned several special programs, the first of which is Jeff Mishur's City Beautiful: Celebrating the Burnham Plan Centennial on Tuesday, June 30, at 7 pm. You can see the exhibit and learn more about Burnham and his plan.Aroma Dolce Cafe
