About a Boy by Nick Hornby

April 5, 2011, 7 pm

Will lives a cool but shallow life with few personal connections. He considers himself an island. Looking for ways to meet single women, he invents two-year old Ned and joins a single parents group. Through the group, he meets Marcus an awkward 12-year-old, who immediately recognizes and admires Will’s coolness which is so different from his own circumstances. As Marcus maneuvers himself into his life, Will’s carefully constructed lifestyle begins to crumble. Read Nick Hornby’s book then watch the movie. Novelist Peter Hedges wrote the screenplay. We’ll compare the novel and the film.
