Crashing Through: a true story of risk, adventure, and the man who dared to see

by Tom Rachman

Mike May spent his entire life crashing through barriers.  Blinded when he was three years old, he defied the odds by breaking records in downhill speed skiing, joining the CIA, and becoming a successful inventor and entrepreneur.  In 1999, he was given the option of a revolutionary surgery that could restore his vision.  The surgery was risky and the prognosis for full vision was poor.  Fewer than 20 people worldwide had successful outcomes.  Even then, each person suffered devastating consequences.  As the reason stacked up against having the surgery, Mike had to make the hardest decision of his life – whether to risk crashing through yet another barrier.
