Olive Kitteridge is a retired school teacher in a small Maine town. Olive doesn’t like the changes she sees in her town, but she often doesn’t recognize that the changes are the result of the growth in the townspeople themselves. In a series of linked stories, Olive slowly begins to see the townspeople as individuals which spurs a deeper understanding of her own feelings and personality.
