PT Adult Services Associate

17 hours a week. Every week: Monday 12:24 – 5:15 (4.5 hr.), Friday 8:45 - 5:15 (8 hr.). Once a Pay period (two weeks): Tuesday 12:45 – 5:15 (4.5 hr.) or Sunday 12:45 - 5:15 (4.5 hr.) depending on the week.

$20.20 - $25.25/hr. $25.25 is the midpoint. Internal equity is used in determining the rate of pay.

Position Details:

The Addison Public Library is seeking a friendly, creative, and customer-focused person to help patrons with their information needs from basic technology questions to finding that book they once read with the green cover. You’ll also have the opportunity to work on programs, special projects, and participating on library-wide committees.

  • Excellent research skills
  • Effective, enthusiastic and respectful communication talents/skills/abilities
  • Experience with English Language Learners will be helpful

What you’ll be doing:

  • Providing support for adult programming, including participation in planning, scheduling, and presentation of programs.
  • Promoting the library’s collection through eye-catching displays and other marketing activities
  • Focusing on internal public desk coverage and behavior monitoring
  • Serving patrons primarily inside the building, but there may be opportunities to represent the Library out in the community.

Qualifications:

  • LTA or bachelor's degree preferred. Directly related experience and/or enrollment in higher education may be considered in place of the degree requirement.
  • Two years' customer service experience required.
  • Evening and weekend work required.
  • Access to transportation required.

Community Engagement Associate

Hours: Part-time 17/week; Evening and weekend hours as required.

Salary: $20.20 - $25.25/hr. DOQ; $25.25/hr. is the midpoint of the salary range.

Position Details:

Do you enjoy meeting new people? Do you love the library and what it has to offer? APL’s Community Engagement Department is looking for an outgoing, energetic, and creative individual to deliver excellent customer service to patrons in our diverse community. Your focus will be to engage with patrons outside of the library at facilities such as the senior living complex, parks, and local businesses to provide library services to people unable to come to the library. You will have the opportunity to work on special projects, assist with programming, collaborate with other departments, and participate on library-wide committees.

What we’re looking for: 

  • Excellent communication skills and enthusiasm for building relationships with our diverse population
  • Self-driven and resourceful individual informed on library and community news
  • Passion for working with the public and connecting them to resources
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) speakers are strongly encouraged to apply!

Information Technology Services Clerk

Hours: Part-time Tuesday 1-9, Wednesday 9-5, and every other Sunday 1-5 (34 hours every two weeks)

Salary: $15.70-$19.63/hr. DOQ. $19.63 is the mid-point of the salary range reserved for candidates who exceed the minimum qualifications and have significant, direct experience.

Position Details:

The Addison Public Library is seeking a customer-focused Information Technology Services Clerk to provide assistance and training to patrons using computers, software applications, and other digital services offered by the library. Along with providing an exceptional patron experience at the Information Technology Services desk, you will have the opportunity to assist patrons using the Creative Studio equipment and perform basic troubleshooting.

What we're looking for: 

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with the public and staff.
  • Patience! We help patrons of all ages and knowledge levels, many of whom have limited technology or English language skills.
  • Familiarity with Windows and Mac computers, web searching and emailing, Microsoft Office and Google Apps, Apple and Android tablets/smartphones, Wi-Fi connection, printing, scanning, and photocopying.
  • Ability to perform basic troubleshooting.
  • Ability to set priorities, make independent decisions, and exercise discretion with patrons and staff.
  • A team player who collaborates with others to help solve complex problems.

Qualifications:

  • A high school diploma, some colleges preferred.
  • One year of related technical and customer service experience.
  • Bilingualism (English/Spanish or English/Polish) is preferred.
