Celebrate Library Card Sign-Up Month 2025: One Card, Endless Possibilities!

September is Library Card Sign Up Month! Stop by the library and get your card (or show us your card!) between September 2-30 and you'll get a free sticker and a free gift! Children through grade 5 will be entered into a raffle for a grand prize drawing, and adults ages 18 and up will also be entered to win a Golden Library Card from Libro.fm!

(Please note: Giveaway is limited to 1 item per person while supplies last and does not apply to reciprocal borrower cards.)

It may be small, but a library card packs a mighty punch. Borrow museum passes, musical instruments, and even tools from your library’s collection. Take part in programs like book clubs, crafting classes, and historical presentations. Access technology, Wi-Fi, and career resources to support your goals, whether you're a student, job seeker, entrepreneur, or lifelong learner. It’s one card with endless possibilities!

What do I need to get a library card?

It's easy! To register yourself or your child for a library card, you need a photo ID with your current address. If your photo ID doesn’t have your current address, please bring in an item from the proof of address list at: addisonlibrary.org/get-a-card.

NEW! You can now register for your library card online! Visit swanlibraries.net/get-a-card to get started. Please note: an active email address is required to register online.

Does it cost anything to get a library card?

Residents of incorporated Addison can sign up for their library card at no cost.

Residents of unincorporated Addison may purchase a library card for a fee that will be calculated using your property tax bill. This fee is based on a formula determined by the Illinois State Library and is equal to the percentage of property taxes incorporated residents automatically pay.

Free library cards are available to any student living in an unincorporated area whose household falls at or below the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Income Eligibility Guidelines. Learn more at addisonlibrary.org/get-a-card.

How do I replace a lost card?

If you have lost your library card, please let staff at Guest Services know as soon as possible and they will be happy to issue you a new card for free. Stop by the desk next time you're in or call them at 630.543.3617.

What can I do with my library card?

Your library card is the most valuable card in your wallet!

What if I already have my library card?

If you already have your library card, stop by the library and show us your library card, and you'll get a free gift, too! You can also tell us what you love about your library card online, and you'll be entered to win a goodie bag filled with Addison Public Library-branded items! Submit your answer online at addisonlibrary.org/feedback. Thank you for being an Addison Public Library cardholder!
