Your Addison Public Library card is like a passport: you can use it to go anywhere, even if you’re staying at home! Whether you want to learn a new language or a new recipe, plan your next vacation or plan your vacation reading list, we have everything you need to explore the world.

Plan Your Next Adventure

Going abroad? A to Z World Travel has information on over 200 cities around the world that can help you find the best places to eat, plan what to pack for the climate, and answer important questions about currency, transportation, and more!

We also have a great collection of travel books you can use to help you plan. Browse our catalog to find books on the country you’d like to visit or ask staff to give you a tour of our travel resources.

Learn a New Language

Whether you need to know the basics of a country’s language for your upcoming trip or simply want to learn something new, we can help you speak a new language with our free online resources:

  • Mango Languages: With this tool, you can learn a new language by practicing real native conversations. Mango Languages has over 70 languages to choose from, such as Mandarin Chinese, French, German, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Polish, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, and more.

  • Rosetta Stone: Learn how to speak, read, and write languages such as English, French, Polish, Spanish, and more!

  • Live Lingua: Short language courses for over 130 world languages. Courses include Spanish, Chinese, French, Japanese, and German, and less-spoken languages and dialects such as Konkomba, TokPisin, Turkish, and more.

Kids can learn a new language through Muzzy Club, which is free to use with the username AddisonPL and the password AddisonMuzzy.

Explore the World from the Comfort of Home

Sample food from around the world by cooking a recipe found in A to Z World Food, which has recipes and food culture information for 174 countries. Kids will love ABC World Food’s recipes and fun food facts, too.

We also have a complete digital archive of both National Geographic and National Geographic Kids that you can browse to explore amazing videos and articles from all around the world.

Borrow a Book from Anywhere in the World
