Our library has collected thousands of audiobooks, but over the past few years, we’ve added a newer format to our audio collection: the Playaway.
Unlike books on CD or eAudiobooks, the latter of which can be streamed or downloaded on our website here, Playaways are smaller and lighter than books on CD or even a smart phone. Whether the book you want to listen to is 8 hours or 80 hours, the format is the same – a case the size of a deck of cards that weighs as much as a few grapes.
Its small size is the main benefit to the Playaway. Whether you’re walking the dog, making a meal, or cleaning the house, you can listen to a book with the supplied earbuds in each case. You will need to power the device with one AAA battery, which is not included.
Just like audiobooks, these items check out for four weeks and can be placed on hold. We offer Playaways in Adult Services, Children’s Services, and Teen Services, so be sure to drop by and pick up one today!
